(22.05.2008) The KIPUS Network, under the coordination of UNESCO, will hold its Fifth Meeting on 4 to 6 June 2008. The event, conceived as a space for debating and formulating proposals on development of the teaching profession, will be held at the Pontificia Universidad Católica (Lima, Peru).

During the three-day encounter, participants will reflect on social changes that have an impact on the work of teachers and on the transformation processes required to develop the competencies today’s educators must have. Additionally, studies, papers and research will be presented in support of projects aimed at enhancing the work done by teachers in the region to more effectively cope with current issues and social challenges.

Ministries of Education, universities, education faculties, pedagogical institutes, research centres, teacher organisations, school principals, teachers, and researchers from every country in the continent have committed their participation in this exchange.

Discussion will focus on four major issues: the teaching profession and changes in the social realm; professional development and the dimensions of the teaching profession; trends confronted by the teaching profession in the face of social change; and challenges to initial and in-service education.

The Fifth KIPUS encounter will highlight the efforts and contributions of their members towards enhancing teachers’ professional training and strengthening their ethical commitment. These efforts are intended to advance quality education as a genuine right for the population at large.
